Gunther: "YOU'RE GOING TO PERU?!" Rosa: "Gunther, I've always lived up to my parents' expectations. I got into Yale, just like they wanted" Rosa: "But it's not what I want! I want more life, not more school. So I'm going to Peru to help at my uncle's clinic. I leave in two weeks. I'm so excited!" Rosa: "But right now, I have to tell my parents. They'll go into shock!"
Wouldn’t Rosa be able to better serve in Peru if she’s educated? This seems an awful lot like the mighty whitey trope. She’s going down to Peru to save the ignorant natives with her American knowhow and spunk.
