It will seem strange if in tomorrow’s strip, they return back to fighting about something the characters determined was not really a problem today. Maybe panel 3’s version of Luann and Bernice can take a time out and help Evans with the dialogue.
Sorry, Greg, this is a bad segue. Love the strip, but this is pointless. And yes, Bernice isn’t hootie enough, especially with that constant disapproving look she gives everything. Luann is correct.
Several people above have surprised me by objecting to this “charity episode”.
Now on one hand, I don’t think any specific charity is automatically worthwhile, and I haven’t checked this one out to form an opinion.
But in any event, if Greg and Karen want to promote a charity they like once a year at Thanksgiving, I think we should cut them the slack to do it.
By the fact that we’re all on here, we are enjoying the Evans’s efforts considerably. So we should respect them in doing something like this once in a blue moon. It’s their strip, and they don’t “owe” any of us utterly commercial-free entertainment. Objections sound too much like “entitlement”.
To all who celebrate, I wish a happy and peaceful Thanksgiving. To those who do not, I wish a great day. Love those around you, we are only here on this world a short time.
I’m on Bernice’s side on this one. Supposedly, Bernice is Luann’s best friend and Luann should have thrown the invitation her way, even though there would be a great chance she would decline it. Haven’t we watched enough after school specials and ‘pass it on’ psa’s to know it’s more about being included than the gathering itself?
But the fact that some people are complaining about a once-a-year mention of a charity auction for disaster victims on Thanksgiving – by the National Cartoonist’s Society, no less – makes me despair for the future of the human race.
So Bernice pitches a fit, Luann invites her, Bernice gets there – and finds out the party is thrown by Ann Eiffel, whom she tangled with years ago. You’re gonna be sorry, Bernice…
The only reason Bernice wanted an invitation is so she could act all snotty and superior while refusing it, like she did with the body art expo. Something along the lines of: “Me? Have fun? (scoffs) I’M and RA! I have DUTIES!”
And I know from experience that if one keeps extending invitations to a person, and that person keeps refusing them, then after a while, one just gives it up and stops asking. I mean, why bother if the person is just going to say no?
Happy Thanksgiving. Some support for those yesterday who maintained that Luann’s exclusion of Bernice was intentional. Even if you know that someone might not be interested, it is good manners to include them.
Very nice sentiment, and its like a stage play where the actors address the audience directly. That is good. Bernice and Luann will survive the Tara kerfuffle but since my contention is that Tara is the center of a number of arcs involving the Fuse, Les, Ann, everybody connected to the FUse, Tiffany and Gunther (see Moordock I am putting them almost as a couple!) and Dez lets not forget, oh Piro (sorry this sentence is out of control) I think there will eventually be a rapprochement between Tara and Bernice. There is will always be a little competition, but Tara will be cool with Bernice being Luann’s BFF, Bernice needs to be cool about it herself.
Interesting arc, in which the story line includes a commercial break. That was commonplace in the 1950s in television shows like The Jack Benny Show, and it worked. At least this one’s for a good cause! Thanksgiving blessings….
I’m not nearly as inspired as Greg & Karen – however today I would have had a single frame subtitled “Happy Thanksgiving,” showing Gunther & Tiff in her room – embracing with a good kiss. Then I would have placed the request for donations to the right.
Ugh, Bernice is the absolute worst. Getting mad about not being invited when you were gonna refuse the invitation anyway? Grow the hell up, lady. You should stop demanding that people hang out with you and start making them want to.
And as weird as the segue was, it’s for a good cause so I can’t bring myself to bash it.
Bernie (in script) still seems to be distancing herself from Luann and everyone else, despite the (out of character, “real life”) Time-Out for charity.
Luann needs to start interacting more with the guys around and about—Gunther, Jack, Piro, or anyone else….

Bernice sure likes to say no to everything. Maybe she feels threatened by Tara and that to compete, she has to be someone she’s not?

I feel like in a few arches Bernice and Luann’s friendship is going to fade, like a lot

I saw the panel at the end as a blur while putting my glasses on.
I thought we were going to vote to save/dump Bernice.

I checked out the website. The Luann original artwork that is getting sold is the 11-24-85 strip.

Boy, what a lame message. The comics are for jokes, not for charity.

Bernice LOVES to Say “No” and gets Mad when She’s not given the Opportunity to say “No.” Lovely.
You Know, One Day, Bern’s gonna make some potential Soulmate MISERABLE for the REST of Their Lives.
PLEASE Don’t let that Soulmate be Gunther……,

Cartoon characters talking directly to the readers…………that’s okay as long as none of us start talking back to them.
