I used to HATE high top sneakers as they made my ankles hurt too much. But i realized my despise of high tops because i was lacing the shoes up too high and too tight.
You can get something that’s good at doing a lot of things, but it won’t be great at doing anything. The “tool” dedicated to a particular task will always prove to deliver superior results.
Greg and Karen do a terrific job, but this week is just not up to their usual high standards. I think they made their point by Wednesday. This is getting a little toooooo dragged out.
when I go looking for shoes I don’t have the luxury of looking for their preferred purpose. I take a very large, very wide shoe and my choices are generally the one pair in my size that the store has on hand or going barefoot. I haven’t paid under $120 for a pair of shoes since the early 1980’s. My size is scarce enough that I sometimes have to pre order them at the shoe store. And forget about shopping for them online, because Amazon doesn’t carry my size the places that do are priced in U.S. dollars and actually cost more after I pay the exchange rate than the ones I get at the shoe store.
Does anyone actually believe that Frank is really gonna take up running? Reminds me of the guy that gets inspired to buy a high-end set of tools that just end up collecting dust in the garage.
This is cute… but the “dated” aspect of this rerun does show. It is very unlikely that Frank would be so curmudgeonly about the array of shoes in 2019.
But, back in 1998, these discussions WOULD have been quite humorous and funny and even wry when said by folks of the age of Frank back then, as it was far earlier in the transition to the plethora of models of shoes we have today.
* * * *
As an aside…. I cannot recall… has Greg taken this sort of “vacation” before where there were rerun panels? Or has he typically taken the route of building up an extra supply of comics for use during “vacations”? It seems I would have noticed and remembered, but unfortunately I do not.
Similar to medicine., You go to your “primary physician” who shuttles you off to a specialist who, if you’re unlucky, finds that another doctor (with a sub-specialty) should help you. Whatever happened to a good doc who knew more than one thing?
Gen Z and younger Millennials, Gen Y (yes we are getting that old) are increasingly going with Converse All-Stars. I have seen young men and women with them on at the gym. I congratulated a young woman on a pair and she was practically blushing. I hope it wasn’t because an old, old dude actually talked to her though. (lol).
I agree with phgladkol701. this all seems silly. Frank should just try on a couple pairs and buy one. you can walk, run crawl in just about anything; barefoot might be even better. I hope G&K are taking a one week vacation (I wouldn’t bet on it); these two could talk about sneakers well into next week.

Back in the olden days there was low tops and high tops. I am trying to remember the name of the popular brand, something like Redball.

So… I thought we established on Tuesday that cross-trainers were “next aisle over” ? Sort of a short communal memory they’ve got there.

Didn’t Frank have the same problem buying shoes 21 years ago? Maybe he needs to go shopping more often.
