Makes me think of Asimov’s short story It’s Such a Beautiful Day

THIS is why I pray I never get jury duty. I can’t imagine sitting still for so long – indoors, and with my luck we’d end up being sequestered. So long, outdoors!

Sounds like the 60s to me.

Actually, I was on a jury deliberating on a shooting case (nobody was injured) that occurred on a woodland trail 20 miles out of town. The prosecutor convinced the judge that this required a “field trip” to the site. Unfortunately, once we got near the area, it was evident that it was not possible for older members of the jury to negotiate the trail, so none of us were allowed to visit the actual site. (A jury must see all evidence as one body). We returned to town having lost an entire trial day.

Part of the Scopes monkey trial was outdoors because it was so hot.
