In my elementary school, the highest grade you could get was ‘E’ for excellent. As soon as we got to junior high, there was a different system: ‘A’ was highest and ‘E’ was failing. That played with a few heads until we got used to it.

All I EVER remember having in any school was the ABCD system (and the dreaded F). For things like Phs.Ed, I think they had S for satisfactory and I got some F (or whatever else they had there- Hated playing games- still DO). I remember getting A+ in subjects I liked (especially drafting, literature, art, and logic).
My school chose not to skip over ‘E’ and go to ‘F.’ Sure, ‘F’ stands for ‘fail’- but ‘A’ ‘B’ ‘C’ and ‘D’ aren’t being used as initials- so ‘F’ for ‘fail’ is just a stunt. ‘E’ is next in the alphabet, so the school system went with that.
Even though Maria obviously has her own grades in mind, it still has to be nice to hear that you’re a great teacher. The foam finger may be a bit over the top though.
