I was very confused by some of yesterday’s comments. As someone who was raised in a Jewish/Catholic neighborhood in NJ, I couldn’t understand what the issue was. When I reread, I did see how it could be taken the wrong way…so sorry if I offended anyone. As a gay man, I particularly understand offensive jokes, and am empathetic to those feelings. But also as a gay man, I have learned that we have to all be able to laugh out ourselves and the stereotypes that make who we are amusing to others. As far as the characters in the strip, yes, Lila’s mother is Jewish, but Lila was raised Christian. It’s usually the other way around but I thought I’d switch it up a bit so I can include church, priest, and confessional gags. I’ve never found temple that amusing. And yes, I’ve been many times.
