    First!

Well, maybe Lila can get her job back by showing some cleavage to the big boss, but what about Boyd?

That perky little blonde seems to enjoy this…

The Blond doesn’t realize that when she’s finished giving her BS to the unlucky ones, her tireless efforts will no longer be needed either. Say “bye bye” Blondie.

I’ve been on the receiving end of the “thanks for 18 years” conversation. The thing is, there’s no easy way to deliver that news. I’ve seen managers the afternoon after a round of lay-offs too, and they’ve looked terrible. The guy that had to tell me looked like he genuinely felt worse than I did.

As I was packing my things up and leaving a former manager, who’s also a friend, came up to me and gave me a hug (she was crying a little) and did say that this could be an opportunity for some great things to happen for me – an exciting new life. It took a while, but she was absolutely right.

You can’t fire me…..I quit….I’ve quit better jobs than this one!Remember you were looking for a job when you found that one and you’ll find another……and some times it is nice to burn bridges behind you and tell them where to shove it!!

what bugs the heck out of me is when they terminate you, it’s “effective immediately”. but if you leave the company, they expect to have two week’s notice.

Normally, a laid off FT employee is given 2 weeks severance pay, plus whatever leftover vacation pay is due. Then the employee can immediately apply for Unemployment while searching for another employer. It’s not an “effective immediate” termination of all income.

My sister is being given over 6 months. They told her in January that they are laying her off in November. The best I ever got was a month but it was with pay and they did not need me to come in. I was not allowed to get another job in that time if I wanted the severance package too.

this is what i know: no matter how things eventually turn out, being “terminated” (a less deadly term is laid off) is a disaster, both emotionally and financially. and the disruption can last a long time.

Most jobs these days give no severance pay, unless you’re way higher up the ladder.

It was always for salaried management and professionals anyway. Never for hourly workers like Lila.

in the massive layoffs this century, notice was very rare. Usually it’s clear out your desk and go home… or, like this, being your coat cos you won’t have a chance to go back to any employees only areas.

There is no law in most places requiring any further pay, though most companies will pay you for the rest of your assigned shift for that day.

that happened to me on a low end job many years ago, and with a similar speech. And when the company for which I was a retail manager closed most of the stores, they told us at a regional manager meeting.

I was told I won a sales award, my store had the highest sales growth in our region. And sorry, but it’s closing in three days, and and you can work one week after that to pack it up and do inventory.

I did get 3 months severance..wouldn’t happen today.
