I knew my son was getting older around 5th grade when in little league the coaches replaced “If you had fun, you won” with “Kill ’em, ladies!”

I’m guessing that today, in a properly run “progressive school”, the children would have been encouraged to talk to each other using their puppets, as the last stage of the exercise. I’m not kidding.

I remember being on the ferry from Marin County to San Francisco with some kids who were running around. When one of them fell and was slightly injured, the others gathered around and offered therapy.

“You’re from Marin, right.” I asked one of the girls

“No.” she said with a smile.

Her friend frowned at her and told me, “We really are.”

I would have LOVED a puppetry club. My options were running in the woods until I threw up or “citizenry” = folding and stapling papers in the office or running back and forth across the court until I threw up.

Wow. What a loss here! You’d think he wouldn’t have had to be the best at it!
