On the bus in Santa Barbara, I would hear college girls speaking “Spanglish” a mile a minute. There would be long periods of Spanish with the occasional English word thrown in because they just didn’t have the full vocabulary of a native speaker. Didn’t seem to slow them down any.
Sigh. Imagine hearing a language at home and not being able to speak it! I get it, though. My grandparents made my mother speak English (instead of Yiddish) at home because they were now Canadians, by golly gee, and that was what was going to get them ahead in life!
HI all! Good News/Bad news. I sold my graphic Novel Based on Mexikid to Penguin books! It’ll be big, big story that will take me quite a while to finish. So in the meantime, the stories here will be sporadic. If you want to hear any updates, head on over to instagram or Facebook @mexikidstories. Thanks!!
Well, muchas felicidades! No bad news; I suppose being here was worth it for you. I’ll check in if you’re going to occasionally appear! Otherwise, let us know if you’re really closing up shop for a while (it’s OK to do that, y’know! Life takes its turns…). All the best. I’ve appreciated your stories, and that you actually read our comments!

In panel 17, was our hero trying to be affectionate like his mom?

Many school districts in California offer Spanish for Spanish speakers for kids like Pedro.

Uh-oh, where’s Sr. Martin? We seem to be missing this week’s cartoon. I hope he’s OK!

That’s great news! I think it should be pitched as a “Wonder Years” style TV series. It is my favorite comic by far.
