I have nearly 500 separate beer reviews (meaning reviews of 500 different beers) posted on RateBeer.com. Yes, I’m a beer geek/snob.
I realized I needed to stop rating beers when I finished mowing the lawn and grabbed a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and sat down to quench my thirst, and I couldn’t do it without analyzing a beer that I’ve enjoyed probably hundreds of times (nice citrus undertones…).
I enjoy “just drinking a good beer” much more since I quit trying to rate them.
That’s not to disparage the site or the great people who use it. If you like good beer, I really encourage you to check it out. It was great for helping me figure out what it was about some beers that I really liked so I could find more, and also for helping me realize what it was that I didn’t like about some other beers/styles.
