My wife works from home. She usually starts around 6:00 am. She gets more done in those two hours than she does the rest of the day. But she would NEVER bother someone at 6:30. That would cause her to have to deal with someone else and goof up her system.
One of the advantages of being laid off a couple of years ago was that I had to set up an office at home to do my job search. In addition to setting aside space and getting a new webcam to do interviews, I also had to learn discipline to work when I should work and not work when I should not be working.
Now it’s very simple. I arrive at my desk and move the TV remote to the shelf with the TV and replace it with my phone – work time. When I get done, I do the reverse – self time.
Many years ago I worked in a hospital and we were called to see if we could work when someone else couldn’t come in. I got called a lot. I finally figured out that was because I usually said yes, so I was at the top of the call list. I got extra pay but I did have other things to do on my days off. So I started saying no every other time I was called.
If I got called, I got overtime, 4-hour minimum. Time and a half before midnight double time after midnight. Second call 4 hours after first another 8 hours pay. They wanted to make us salaried, no thanks I am making four times my base pay. Only lasted a few years, but man I made money.

Still a lots of mini-Napoleons rampant in the business world. No cure found so far.

I am lucky. My bosses respect my time.

one of my favorite iPhone features — setting up a “do not disturb window”, e.g. calls and texts are received, but no ringing or text alerts.

If they’ve got your cell phone number, it’s because you gave it to them.
