Relationships are more important to women. Men-“Will there be food?”

It doesn’t really pay to tell people that someone close to you has died. It too often turns into “can you top this” and you wind up hearing about the deaths of remotely connected people by firing squad on Mars. :) :( :(

    [Dark Helmet] “I am your father’s brother’s nephew’s cousin’s former roommate!”

[Lone Starr] “So . . . what’s that make us?”

    [Dark Helmet] “Absolutely nothing!”

    Spaceballs

We ran into that issue when trying to negotiate a contract. How many days off for what degree of relationship of the deceased? The actual feelings that a person may have for a totally unrelated person could be very profound. And, another may not care diddily for any member of their family. We finally just added days to what we had called “sick leave”, which was rarely used for being actually sick anyway.

Close enough to add as “friend” on Facebook for some. (I have a couple of mutual interest groups, relatives and people I actually know on my list. There are occasional days it takes two or three hours to go through recent posts. I sometimes wonder how much time people with 500+ “friends” spend on FB).
