Boy: Ah, the beaver! The green Prius crowd could learn a lot from our industrious friend... does he fret over old-growth forests? Bah! Spotted owls? I think not! He's a logger, born and bred! And here... the dam! No federal regulations... no impact studies! Just good old-fashioned exploitation of natural resources! But having said that, I don't like the way the stream is backing up so close to the bocce court. Have Herberto come out and dynamite this first thing on the morrow. Butler: Yes, sir.

Protect the beavers, give a dam!

It’s wild and wooly, this unregulated, every-beaver-for-himself natural wonder that is Sedgie-World.

Yes, protect the Bocce court at all costs!

This is not a far-fetched premise. Daily I drive past a deteriorating beaver lodge— the state (CT) came and moved them out, and took out their dam. It was threatening to destroy some wetlands, go figure. Or threatening some housing.
That’s what the beavers get for not having the required permits.

If Herberto doesn’t “relocate” the beavers, they will repair that dam very quickly. Seemingly over night..My dad and I spent hours watching them do that, cuz we just liked blowin’ stuff up. Their best effort was 3 times in one week. And it was a fairly substantial dam, too.

That looks more like a lodge than a dam. Trust me, I’m Canadian.

I’m not Canadian and I’m trying to figure out what the heck the difference is between a beaver lodge and a dam. Are you guys pulling my leg, are beaver lodges for real??
billyruffian about 13 years ago
Yep, Canadian, too, see these critters all the time on our nickels, and it is a lodge – wheres today’s strip??
steverinoCT about 13 years ago
Commentator, the lodge is where the beavers live. It has submerged entrances, and from the outside is a dome-shaped pile of sticks.A dam is, well, a dam, across a stream. A pretty leaky one, but sufficient to create a pond.
