Think thru the whole personal-jet-pack thing. No rules of the road in the sky. No white or yellow lines to guide you. No speed limits. No directional or street signs. At any given moment, it’s not just traffic going in your direction in the same lane plus one easily predictable row of cars coming the other way to your left, it could be somebody coming in from the side, top, or bottom, at who knows what speed. And, as illustrated here, fersher there’s gonna be someone who ignored the “fuel low” indicator too long, which won’t result in merely an annoying and embarrassing pullover by the side of the road.
The whole concept of these things was badly flawed. Jet propulsion runs very, very hot. You can’t put a person’s body right next to the exhaust system and heat radiation. Even if the cooling problems could be solved, it would be extremely dangerous to pilot. Consider the training involved to get a helicopter pilot’s license. You’d need similar training to fly a flying passenger car (which basically is a helicopter), or a personal jet pack. It’s not something the average consumer is going to be able to afford to do, or to want to do. Plus, the more air traffic, the more complex the air traffic control.

Hate to drop in unannounced, but could you give me a lift to the nearest jet fuel station? Heh heh?
