“As of 2021, the [magnetic north] pole is projected to have moved beyond the Canadian Arctic to 86.400°N 156.786°E.” (Wikipedia). Currently it’s headed towards Russia.
One day maybe in some of our lifetimes it will melt for part of the year and if allowed to continue eventually too hot for any ice and snow. The poles are giving us a view into the future since they react first to the climate alterations caused by us and Nature adjusting to the fact.
At the North (or South) magnetic poles the compass tries to point straight down (or up). I see that kartis is up to date on the current movement of the North magnetic pole, which has now crossed into the eastern hemisphere and is still headed toward Siberia at a fairly fast pace.
technically the needle would point straight down at the north pole, but only if it was free to move in all directions rather than just rotate on an axle

If it was the North Pole, he’d be drowning. ;-(

Unfortunately, that’s just the magnetic pole, not the geographical one.

I can think of some reasons why.

Okay, so is he in the Arctic or Antarctic? How are we so sure he isn’t in a field outside his town at this point?

Seems more like something you’d find in a physics textbook, if it appears in any serious sort of textbook.

He should have bought the compass with the factory installed Speed control.

I thought he was in the Antarctic. Who goes to the Arctic in Winter?

And – you were tossed back in time! And, wait: Isn’t that Commander Robert Peary headed towards you?

What they DO tell you in the geography books, however, is that the North Pole and magnetic north are in two different locations.

Assuming he is at the Magnetic NP, a bit different than the actual NP

It’s OK. Now you just head South.

That must be the North MAGNETIC pole. It’s some distance from the true north pole.

And then there was Katarzyna Monarski, one babeuliciously magnetic Pole.

Our Monty appears to have discovered a new energy resource.
