Yep - we walked, took streetcars or the train everywhere during WWII in the LA Basin - saved up ration cards for ‘emergency’ use - there were NO cars on the streets - and my father was in defense work, building Liberty ships in Long Beach at the Kaiser yard, Calship.
I remember ration books, too. In fact, in my collection of family items, I have one. They were so important during the war that when someone stole my father’s gas ration book, it ended up as an article in the local newspaper! And I have a copy of that, too.
Susan001: I do realize there are bad cops, but that’s a rather outdated, immature, and disrespectful term.
Susan001: Westlewestaz, PLEASE don’t be a pompous, hoilier-than-thou type. It’s SO unbecoming.
I know that gasoline was strictly rationed in those years, but that does NOT give that cop the right to harass citizens. After all, they pay his salary.
Hmmm - I have reread my comments and can’t figure out where or how I was pompous or holier-than-thou!! Oh, well.
I agree, cops don’t have the right to harass. And this particular cop did get put in his place!

Yea. Monopoly man signals after the depression and ration book signals a war.
