Three cans of anything for fifty-four cents - could have been as recently as the 60s. Also interesting that the total sale was for $72. My folks bought their first house (where they still live, 62 years later) for $5,000 total in the late 40s! Their average mortgage payment was about $45 per month! Of course, in those days, you could still buy a stamp to mail a letter for One Cent! Eggs were 8 Cents per dozen! So, even at $72.30 - Mutt’s total grocery bill would have been WAY higher than the monthly mortgage payment for my folks’ first home!
