Good morning, everyone. Sunday I went to the Israeli parade on 5th Av in Upper manhattan. It was great with all the different groups. I especially liked the Bukharian Jewish and kavkaz (Caucasian) groups with their costumes, music and folkdancing.
For the past few years I’ve been wearing slippers when I could get away with it instead of shoes – I find them more comfortable. However, because of my pending trip to germany, I decided to try out a pair of the many shoes I own. While standing at the barricades, watching the parade for several hours (I have an artificial hip plus a metal rod in my upper leg) my feet (not my legs) began to hurt TERRIBBLY. One foot is bigger than the other and my little toe is pushed by my shoe against the other toes. I could hardly wait to take my shoes off and I know all my other shoes will hurt me as well.
When I got home several friends of mine suggested I get sandals with open toes. I’ve always bought shoes in case I need them for formal-informal occasions, but this seems like a good idea to but such shoes for my trip. I usually avoid leather as I tend toward being a vegetarian, but leather may be comfortable. I will buy a pair this week. Why didn’t I ever think of this before? I have a whole collection of shoes and lack storage space for them because I’ve been buying TWO pairs of shoes and wearing the bigger mate on my right foot.
