I found a DVD of about 6 “Sky King” episodes a few years back. They brought back such memories of Saturday morning television dramas. Anyone remember “Fury” or “My Friend Flicka” (the series, not the Rodney McDowell movie). These days all you can find on Saturday mornings are cartoons, no live dramas at all.
Speaking of “Fury”, I read in Toni Helfer’s biography (she was married to Ralph Helfer, the famous animal trainer) that they found a sick, elderly horse abandoned by the side of the road once and took him to their “Africa U.S.A.” compound to nurse him. They discovered that he was highly trained (he started “performing” in his paddock all on his own). Turned out that he was the stallion that starred in “Fury”. He lived with them for several more years and she included a few photos of her riding him while he performed some of his “tricks”.
One more hint on my mystery man: He starred with Bette Davis in “All About Eve”.
