I had a colleague once whose coffee mug read as follows: Please do not straighten up the mess on my desk; you will confuse me and screw up my whole world.
One time I cleaned up my desk spotless Friday evening so I could have a running start Monday morning. Came in Monday morning and there was the biggest pile of junk I’d ever seen on it, and the boss nearby “So and so in such and such dept doesn’t need this anymore, see if there’s anything we can use!” Needless to say, after processing all the leftovers, I did not meet my quota for the week.
Lesson learned: A clean desk just invites other’s junk!
