Well, at least there is a window in the diorama. That COULD be progress – of a sort. But only a couch, lamp and rug in that room? In the meantime, Mutt and Jeff are peddling strawberries and potatoes door to door, Wizard of ID received a message from a pigeon, Rose is Rose kids are running through the sprinkler, For Better or For Worse kids are visiting a carnival, Arlo and Janis are walking outside, Betty and Hubby are at a ball game, Soopy is reading mail on top of his tent at camp, LuAnn and Puddles are enjoying the dog park, Zack Hill and Mom are pruning roses, Red and Rover are still sharing the kiddie pool with neighborhood girls, The Other Coast dog is strolling down the sidewalk, Heathcliff is taking a walk with his Dad, the Drabble family is taking pictures on the beach in Hawaii, Broomhilda is walking in the rain. Nice to know that SOME cartoon characters seem to be enjoying summer vacation – even though it is beginning to look like Nancy, SLUGGO and their friend(s)? will spend most of their summer vacation inside!
Sluggo, “Nancy, you should have looked behind you. Your aunt didn’t know about that stain till you opened your mouth”. Nancy, “Uh, can I stay at your place tonight”?
I find it so interesting that our “techno” Nancy is being guided to make an “artsy” diorama using recycled materials by Aunt Fritzi (even though Aunt Fritzi actually made it). As expected…. Nancy…. being so “tech” focused, finds the actual diorama work to be uninspiring and tedious. Her presuming Aunt Fritzi has an ulterior motive speaks volumes:
1. It shows Nancy not liking something not “techie”.
2. It hints of a disdain by Nancy for art (at least “non-techie” art).
3. That apparently Nancy did not participate (other than in observing) in the making of the diorama.

For me, the lack of apparent interest in a physical art project by Nancy, feels very sad. It reflects much of the current (false) dichotomy that a lot of folks feel between the tech/science world and the art world. The greater reality is that technology and science at their very core are integrated so intimately in the creative/artistic process that any perceived dichotomy is really a falsehood. But sadly, so many folks feel the two are so distinctly different.

Got any leftover bamboo shoots for Nancy’s fingernails? (Confession is good for the soul…and maybe the manicure.)

Nancy: “Villains! dissemble no more! I admit the deed! —tear up the planks! here, here! —It is the beating of his hideous heart!”
