So the “loser’s bracket” that Central was in (and where they played South) was not like the loser’s bracket in a double-elimination tournament, but more like a “consolation bracket” which gives each team the same number of matches. So for instance, if there were 4 teams in a tournament, the two winners in the first round meet to determine 1st and 2nd place, and the two losers meet to determine 3rd and 4th place. It also works well for 8 teams.
