Mildred is the reason Esther left the Magnet School.
Confidently is easy. Correctly is what take the effort.

I like that Nancy is showing cracks in her confidence. Being too self involved can get annoying; characters need to have at least some weakness to inspire reader sympathy. For a supporting character to be overly-confident works fine though.
I think there’s some unfinished questions. Mildred might end up against two opponents and one of them really despises her.
Mildred must be a warm blooded person, while both Esther and Nancy are wearing them. Nancy is even wearing boots.
Esther:
" What’s your favorite musical group?"
Nancy:
“Y…Yes…?
“Who…?”
“Guess Who….?”
Y…Yes…?
“Y…Yes…!”
Careful Nancy, I suspect Esther just decided to take the top spot herself.
