Joe: C'mon, Bob... you've never had any kids, much less ever read a children's book before. What makes you think you can take over Harry Potter's niche? Bob: Oh, please. How hard can it be? Make up a story, frame it in plausible fantasy and use simple words for pliable, un-sophisticated minds. Joe: And when have you ever shown any ability to do that? Other than 20 years of presenting personal injury cases to a jury... Bob: I almost feel sorry for the competition.
I wouldn’t even call Rowling’s fantasy “plausible”. Her magic system seems to be whatever the plot needs it to be at any given time.
