Eden will be foreclosed upon and you will be kicked out into the cruel world without a place to live while the devil collects unrealistic profits and lives in your garden.
@Joe Doty:
Where in the strip does it say that the fruit is an apple?
And if you say that it looks like one, then I’ll have to ask how you know what the Fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil looks like.
Of course, the problem wasn’t the fruit in the tree, it was the pair on the ground.
I (half-jokingly) resent that it’s the woman who says what she does. It’s been my experience that it’s the man who thinks that way! I’ve been a “fixed rate” woman all my life! Haha! P.S. And have absolutely no credit card debt!
Actually, I felt the same way. I originally was going to have Adam saying it, as it would be more accurate in today’s world, but thought I should stick closer to the Bible story.
Barbaratoo: I have no credit card debt either or any other debt actually… it’s a wonderful feeling! Took me 14 years though to get out of its thumb though… :)
Poor snakes have been getting a bad rap ever since. Snakes are awesome animals and aren’t slimy at all. Feel your fingernail, that’s about how a snake feels. Cold-blooded is an outdated term, ectothermic is now correct.
Okay, zoology lesson over!
I always thought it was crummy that everyone blamed Eve for our downfall. She didn’t MAKE Adam eat the bleeep thing. Ah well, guess one shouldn’t gripe over the outcome of a fairy tale.
The Bible cannot possibly be perfect. People are not perfect and they wrote the Bible.
(I will try not to bash men in particular, they did not know better at the time. I tried to restrain myself from mentioning that if many of the the stories in the Bible were told today, there would be a lot more people on medication.)
This is a funny Non Sequitur all right. No real connection with the bible story at all.
No apple in the Genesis story.
The word “apple” didn’t say anything in the Bible, two words God used to tell in the Bible was “forbidden fruit.” I think but not sure if I am right or not.
grazer - You are so right. Most of the people translating the scrolls were almost illiterate. The translations were best guess and the monks/priests writing down the translations were copying someone else’s notes.
I would agree with Mr Doty and add for Wiley’s benefit, that the Bible section in discussion that is attributed to Moses does not put the blame on the woman, but states she was deceived. It puts the blame squarely on man because he ate without deception and of his free will.
Arg! Wiley, you’ve stirred up such a rat’s nest that now I feel like I have to go back and review the Genesis story to confirm my belief that many of the commenters here are just pulling stuff out of their backsides. The best argument against the “truth” of the Bible is the Bible itself…
Anyone who purports to know what the proper context of the Bible is and feels the need to correct others can be considered a Bible thumper.
And yes, question belief. For it is through questioning beliefs that new knowledge is gained.
Ji2m - same can be said of Republicans, or any other political party in a system based on a short election cycle.
Re; the apple. In the middle ages miracle plays were presented in the church, The common one on Christmas Eve was Adam & Eve, the stage prop was a fir tree with apples on it because of preservation in winter. Hence the non-biblical apple and our modern Christmas tree. BTW the snakes name is Barney. Great strip.

Feel free to question any belief you do or do not have . Just don’t take a stand against political analyzing and then support religious analyzing without expecting negative feedback.

i’ll stick with tomatoes as the “forbidden fruit”, but then that puts eden somewhere in south america……….
lazygrazer almost 15 years ago
Using the “apple” to depict the “forbidden fruit” first came about as a silly guess from the childish minds of the early religious hierarchy.
Poor apple.
