The guy with the Pay Pal sign is probably selling sporting shoes and apparel on the side, while spamming gocomics on a daily basis.

I dont know where Wiley gets it, but he is a genius. Those signs the doomsday prophets are holding up are like posts on twitter and the guy in the back is a google ad advertising a service for a fee, the precedent to pay pall.

Wiley is a genius; and this cartoon shows it off well. Too many nuances to comment on any in particular; but just a particularly innovative imaginative illustration!

Paraphrased from somewhere (“Watchmen”, I think):

“I thought you said the world was going to end yesterday.

“How do you know it didn’t?

To onenotedoc: How did complex life rise from primordial ooze? Practice! Practice!

I support the dude with the red bow in his beard. Tomorrow never comes, like that sign in the bar that says “Free beer tomorrow.”

Put a cowboy hat on one of those bearded guys and they would look a lot like Dusty from The Elderberries.

@fritzoid, I believe the Hitchhikers Guide Trilogy, somewhere in its 5 1/3 (+1) books had a similar riff about some scientists who thought the world would end soon–while others thought it already had…

I think this is the quote you’re thinking of:

“There is a theory which states that if anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another which states that this has already happened.”

    It explains a lot…

bmonk and wsmorris, those are similar, but not the one I’m thinking of. It was definitely somebody holding a sign. I’m going to have to check “Watchmen” when I get home this evening…

If there isn’t a T-shirt out there somewhere that reads “Oh yeah?!”, I’m going to have to have one printed up.

Note that the guy who says tomorrow is doomsday is the one who got up in the morning and put the bow in his beard - sprucing up for the last day.

Mr. Wiley is making fun of all us commenters, but if wouldn’t be fun if we all agreed with each other. I don’t allow politics to be discussed in my home, but enjoy the give and take here. Also I am impressed with the degree of intelligence outside of politics that pops up here.

The T-shirt I want simply says, in that big block white bold on black (for cooler days/nights than today) ‘INSECURITY’

Oh, and I believe in 2012. If we’re fairly careful, most of us will see it, and 2013 too! Some Mayans may have to put up another calendar, but we do that every year around here…

    PS: “Watchmen”, Chapter III:

Newsvendor: “How about you? I guess the world didn’t end yesterday after all.”

    Walter Kovacs: “Are you sure?”
