Joe: So how was school today? Danae: Pretty cool, actually! We learned about something called "The Bill of Rights." Joe: Great! What've you learned so far? Danae: That they're vague enough for agenda twisting, so there's a need for me to write some new ones! Joe: I keep forgetting about the dark side of education.

Why not - everyone in the country seems to think they can write a better constitution lately!

“Women’s Work” I thought that was gathering grain and pounding it on a rock. Labor saving devices, Hmph? Why’d you drag her home in the first place? Thank God for Super Bowl Sunday to keep the servants in their place.
Ladies, Lewreader had to suddenly move to parts unknown. Send mail C/O French Foreign Legion.

The strip is called “Non sequitir”. There is no point following it to find out what happens with Victoria, or the Eckert, or Eddie, or anyone. It does not flow anywhere, because it’s one non-sequitir after another.

Well, its about time someone added to the bill. A smart man, tried, but died before he could do it, and the shame is OURS.
From wikipedia: The Second Bill of Rights was a list of rights proposed by Franklin D. Roosevelt, the then President of the United States, during his State of the Union Address on January 11, 1944.
Among these are:
The right to a useful and remunerative job in the industries or shops or farms or mines of the nation;
The right to earn enough to provide adequate food and clothing and recreation;
The right of every farmer to raise and sell his products at a return which will give him and his family a decent living;
The right of every businessman, large and small, to trade in an atmosphere of freedom from unfair competition and domination by monopolies at home or abroad;
The right of every family to a decent home;
The right to adequate medical care and the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health;
The right to adequate protection from the economic fears of old age, sickness, accident, and unemployment;
The right to a good education.
All of these rights spell security. And after this war is won we must be prepared to move forward, in the implementation of these rights, to new goals of human happiness and well-being.
Americas own rightful place in the world depends in large part upon how fully these and similar rights have been carried into practice for all our citizens.
For unless there is security here at home there cannot be lasting peace in the world.
Following FDR’s death in 1945, his wife, Eleanor, led the effort towards international acceptance of numerous elements of FDR’s Second Bill of Rights, incorporated into the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which was adopted by the United Nations in 1948. These rights were then expanded further by The International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights, which was ratified by 142 nations as of 2003. Paradoxically, the United States, where the Second Bill of Rights originated, has not yet signed that Covenant.
Furthermore, the commitment to economic and social rights throughout the world is manifested by their inclusion in the constitutions of numerous countries. And the European Social Charter, signed by 24 European countries, establishes such rights as the right to work for fair remuneration, health care and social security.

The dark side of education is when just enough is learned to be dangerous.

Speaking of education, thanks, Furbitor! I don’t think the Republicans got the memo, though. (Sorry, Wiley!)

Don’t think Canada has signed either. Sadly our current PM doesn’t even believe in Freedom of the Press. :(

Thanks for a wonderful lesson Furbitor – would that it had come true!! But alas, this is America where guns, abortion, gay rights and religion are sooooooo much more important than the civil rights of all of us.
