alcluin, there are no gun control laws at all. Unless you count background checks as “gun control”….Right now anybody at all can by any gun imaginable, as many as they want, as much ammo to fill twenty box cars and you are still legal…Doesn’t sound like gun control to me. Stop making up stories to scare people…It’s not nice

I see Wiley is in a cynical mood. Believe me, NASA would love to go back to the Moon. Tell those knuckleheads in Congress to fund it and don’t change NASA’s long-term goals every time there’s a Presidential election.
If there is nothing to kill, there is nothing to eat.All supplies will need to be brought in from a place where there are consumable life forms, or there will need to be environmental changes, perhaps in sealed biospheres, that allow at least vegetative victims to be maintained to maturity.
Harvard did a study and found that if you own guns, you are way more likely to shoot a family member and be a victim of a burglary. 10,000 gun murders a year and 30,000 gun deaths a year total is nowhere near the 11 in Japan???
Other than time, what is there to kill? Oh what, some of those silly suggestions the technologists want which would occupy them after they ran out of oxygen.
Human nature and the Law of Unplanned Circumstances. The explorers of the New World killed more indigenous people through the diseases they brought with them. And, more native fauna with the domestic animals they introduced, than with all their guns and canons.
Our very nature is destructive, whether by design or through happenstance.
Looks to be two NRA members scouting for a place to build a shooting range? Or the dentist who shot that lion looking for place to hunt. A hunt with less paparazzi, PETA peeps, and lawyers. The conspiracy people could take this trip looking for the aliens living on the dark-side of the moon. Or the secret USA base no one but the Conspiracy persons know about. A travel agency selling Mooncations perhaps?
@RichardSR I take it you didn’t notice the two rifles on the gun rack above their heads?@ragtime Maybe he prefers to pretend – cartoons are supposed to be about using imagination.@Gaijin What does your statement have to do with Ragtime’s statement? He didn’t criticize Wiley per se. Wiley almost never does non-political cartoons [in the real sense of ‘political’]; maybe he wants Wiley to do more overtly political cartoons. Or maybe he doesn’t like Wiley’s side, so wants to keep in touch with what the opposite side is doing. In any of those cases, your statement has no direct bearing on his.
Dearest Nut-Bag, I hung up my guns and they are disintegrating to a pile of rust, but I set my automatic bow and arrow shooter and aim it at our front door every night. You know, history says they killed more people than anything else. Come and visit around 2 AM.
Well, at least (unarmed Americans) had the guts to take down our ‘I only wanted food’ train assailant instead of screaming; "À l’aide! gendarme, s’il vous plaît !! and then wait for them to come, tootling their little whistles and accounting for the victims that would have been killed, save for a defective bullet that jammed his whole plan. And while I’m typing, I note an article in my ‘BarkeaterTown News’ (NY) that more deer are being killed by traffic than by hunters in the woods. Sad state of affairs, that. It translates to the fact that this latest generation is less interested in keeping the deer and varmint population down than finding out that their newest Buzzmobile makes a much more dangerous weapon where the animal, in it’s dying, can kill it’s killer. Irony. Guns? Me? Used ‘em mosta my life. Only possess one now, which has convinced a couple of 3 AM ’window-testers’ that they should drop their guns and pass the time face-down while we waited for the cops to arrive. A fun night that, in retrospect, contributed to the bride’s demise as she was a very excitable woman that just couldn’t handle these things very well.. And so my tale is told..I wish it were different..
This has notthing to do with politics or gun control. Some people really do like to kill. I actually heard one say as much at an official conservation policy public meeting.
Wiley: figured that was the intent, with maybe a little vegan/vegetarian twist in the “hunting” aspect.
As to “human nature”, thinking of the toon with two vultures on a fence, the one saying “Patience my ass, I’m going to kill something.” Does define human exploration and “progress” around the history of the world.
trm: my nephew happens to own TWO fully automatic weapons. Yes, there’s a tax thats far less than the cost of ammo for a day at the range with them, but the background check isn’t any big deal, especially as he’s already a licensed dealer. Which, they’re only “toys” for at the range, no logical reason for them outside the “recreational” aspect. There are lots of others also fascinated by, and owning full auto for just the “kick” of shooting them off.
My own experience with an M-60 was using it for the more serious intent it was designed for.
sueamarlucanWhy should I want to buy a gun? My flintlocks work perfectly well, I got a hundred flints on sale once (and could learn to knap), and I learned to make black powder in junior high back when making your own fireworks were both legal and a fad of the science geeks..ZorkArgEven at my advanced age, I can outrun a melee weapon far better than outrunning a bullet.
keaThat was LBJ’s doings. Originally it was in Huntsville, AL, so all those Nazi missile experts we brought over would feel at home..They also missed that part of the Tenth about unenumerated powers belonging to the people. They want to go back to the Articles of Confederation – which was so unworkable that the first stated purpose of the Constitution was "to establish a more perfect union.
