Jeffrey: Science can't support your so-called holy scriptures, Danae. They defy all logic, not to mention the laws of physics... Danae: What?! So-called?! You dare to besmirch my religion with such blasphemy?!! That insult leaves me no choice but to wreak vengeance upon you at the hands of my faithful minions!! Minions...let the smiting begin!! Well...? What are you waiting for? Lucy: Rational thought, mostly. Jeffrey: Good luck with that.

There can’t be any smiting for “heresy” if there’s no church of believers.

Rational thought? From Danae? More like a mass of conflicting impulses.

Hey Danae, feel better now that you got all that religious nothing out of your system? Lucy and Jeffrey can help you recover with some peaceful logical thought; we hope. We don’t need our sweet heart to get high blood pressure.

Followers of Karl Marx tried to extinguish all religion and belief, and did so in the name of reason and science. We know how THAT turned out…
The current anti-religious theme in this strip is supposed to clever and enlightened, but it’s just obvious, heavy-handed and one-sided. If it refers to certain practices in organized religion, I’m for it. If it refers to all religious belief in general, then it’s short-sighted at best. Many of the greatest scientists in history believed wholeheartedly in God (Kepler, Galileo, Pascal, Newton, and Maxwell wrote most eloquently about it), as do many eminent scientists today.

It surprises me that Danae hasn’t drawn more followers.

Over the years of reading these posts, the most dogmatic have been the atheists, whose prime dogma is the self-refuting, “we are not a religion”. I find it strange no one notices that Danae’s crusades always start with what benefits Danae, and then builds a structure around it as support. This phenomenon characterizes far more than religion..ComicsLoverI have so far compiled a list of 38 individuals who made major scientific discoveries who were also clergy. I have undoubtedly missed a few, and that doesn’t include multitudes of scientists from the laity.

Science: a system of beliefs based on fact.
Religion: a system of beliefs based on faith.
To use one base to prove or disprove the beliefs of the other is an exercise in futility.

Hey, it’s North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory speaking on behalf of the state legislature! No surprise running into him on the comics page.

Just like “Intelligent Design.” I’m so glad my parents covered all the bases with me…it allows me to be an anthropologist who does believe in God and I have no problem reconciling any of it. I also find it hard to deal with the nutty fanatics who insist their one way of thinking/believing is the only way.
