Currently, the target audience is anthropologists and tourists … but tourists only get to see reproductions of cave art, otherwise they would inadvertently destroy it (humidity, mold, pollution, etc.)
[Pedantically yours]: There is a school of anthropological psychology that posits that (ever sustaining) mytho-magical-wishful-religio-superstitious thinking naturally evolved with the growth of self-consciousness. The cave paintings were projected “prayers” for a beneficial outcome before a dangerous undertaking. (Thusly, members of the hunting party and their blood-tie bands constituted the original audience.)
Seeing as how there is a stick figure under the back foot of the elephant, an outcome certainly not hoped for, this mural must be a recording of an actual event rather than a prayer for a hopeful outcome.

The tiger and the mammoth may be the target, but they’re not the target audience. Hmmm… I give up.

At least one of the spear carriers should be running away, otherwise the story would not have been passed on.

Too bad he didn’t copyright it and the copyright still held.

I like the detail of the figure under the Mammoth’s foot. You can spin a great tragedy from that one.

The “target audience” is the entity that gets “circulated”. There is no way to circulate a cave wall.

Why do I think that media consultants would be on the first Golgafrinchan ark?
Prey about 2 years ago
By the way the elephant and the tiger are treating the hunters the target audience is not the hunters descendants.

Never underestimate the ability of some people to make things complicated.

Also, you will notice how sometimes one bit if art will overlap another.
