Remember that people on the east side of a time zone are an hour different from people on the west using sun time. Also someone ten feet across the zone boundary from you is also an hour different at the same sun time. People adjust. Let’s scrap this silly thing.
DST disrupts sleep patterns and may result in more than usual accidents. In the winter time, up here, it gets dark at 5 pm. In the summer, it stays light until 11:30 pm. We tried to put an end to DST but, because the owners of hockey teams complained about schedule conflicts, it still remains.
I like daylight savings time. Here in PA, it stays light later, sometimes til 9 PM in the summer. You can actually do something outside when you get home from work.
The weirdest place for time zones I’ve ever been is Marcus Island (Minami Tori-shima – South Bird Island) – it’s a speck in the Pacific Ocean about half way between Hawaii and Japan. It’s a triangular heap of coral, the longest leg of which is less than a mile. Even on loose coral, it takes about 45 minutes to circumnavigate the island.
I was populated by both American Coast Guard personnel (who operated the LORAN station) and a group of Japanese oceanographers and meteorologists. The Americans used the local time. The Japanese used Japan Standard Time. There was a two hour difference. The time did not depend on geography, but by who you asked for the time.
About this time every year, we in Arizona hear people call for Arizona to join the rest of the world in this insanity. You can’t save daylight. If you need more sunlight, get up earlier. But leave the clocks alone.

There are enlightened jurisdictions around the world who don’t participate.

DST has been shown to reduce energy use in the areas where it is in place. That’s what it was supposed to do, and why it’s used.

Fluffy will have none of that.

If I’m going to go somewhere that doesn’t have Daylight Saving Time, I’ll take Hawai’i over Arizona any day!

Wish they’d just pick one and leave it there!

Leave the timepieces alone. Have summer hours and winter hours for commerce if it is so important (which I doubt).

Moving to Arizona from Texas by the end of the month. This is my last DST

Why not just advance the hour twelve hours….then we’d have daylight saving time all night!….think of all the savings and other things too.

For some unknown reason I woke up an hour early this morning. My body decided to start adjusting for DST today. I was not a happy camper though.
