I can vividly remember watching Disney’s animated “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” on TV as a kid in the 70’s, and laughing hysterically at the antics of Ichabod Crane as he tried to climb over his horse to avoid being decapitated by the Headless Horseman. I was sick with a high fever and it hurt to laugh, but it was so hilarious! I watched it again with my daughter about eight years ago. It was still funny, but I’m guessing that I was probably a bit loopy on cough medicine, and maybe even hallucinating, the first time I saw it…
Traditionally the “headless horseman” carried the “pumpkin head”. The legend has been corrupted to wearing a pumpkin as a head, because it is impossible to do the other thing as a convincing Halloween costume.

The possibilities this awakens…..almost endless.

Given the horseman story is really old and European, most of those weren’t an option. Turnip, now that would be the thing.

wouldn’t a potato be a more obvious choice?

At first, I thought the joke was going to be about Beetlejuice.

I kinda like the avocado – with the green glow.

It might have been worse. His “head” choice could have included a toilet!

A head of lettuce would be fine.
