Fortunately, it’s forbidden to strike during the night…

This reminds me of a British TV sitcom. An old married couple had to stay overnight in Calais because the ferry had been delayed by bad weather. They found a small B and B presided over by a formidable French widow. She spoke very little English and was sure that they were not married. Eventually they managed to convince her, with the assistance of their passport, that they were married. Then she was very helpful and allowed them to share the only room together. :) However, the only town clock was right outside the window and bonged very loudly on the hour, every hour. Perhaps this is the same clock and same establishment. :)

Stayed in a place in Switzerland (I now forget which town) where we had a similar situation! A church right next door and every hour rang the church bell! It was only jarring the first day. After that, it was kinda cool.

Since my grandpa grew up in Spain, my mom in Germany I got to travel a bit and always were careful with where we stayed.
