My grandson had a fascination with vacuum cleaners up to the age of about two. I think it had something to do with the light and noise, but who knows. Certainly not a weird kid-had testing scores in the 99.5% and higher range and placed in advanced classes all the way through high school.
The more I read these comics, the more I’m convinced that Earl indeed has autism spectrum disorder.
I know a few boys who do. They’re all bright, good-hearted, and labeled as “weird”. The oldest of them attended schools that were equipped to teach him to recognize and learn acting normal. He certainly had the incentive to do so; no kid wants to be the weird one. He is now in advanced courses at RPI.
Mine is a “Miele”; I bought because it has normal filters plus HEPA and because the model I wanted is also lightweight and RED (most of my small kitchen appliances are also red- some from before that became fashionable). It has a variable speed, a switch for the beater motor on the handle etc. and it was NOT overpriced.

What do Earl’s parents do with him for entertainment? Very strange for that age.

I didn’t even know about Earl and his interest in vacuum cleaners until this week, and today he shows up in the new strip.

After careful consideration and habitual reading of this strip for a few years, I officially conclude that this kid is weird.

That boy should be talking about childrens books instead of vacuums.

My cat had a fascination with vacuum cleaners–but what he thought he might do with it when he caught it, I’ll never know.

bald 716: What about the “Rainbow”? Remember THAT overpriced system? It also “cleaned the air in your house” for you. It was, for me, a LOL thing.
