That old is it?

Anyone willing to explain the “plum forgets” to a non-native speaker? :) I just don’t get it.

there’s an old saying: “I plum forgot” and of course, another saying is that “an elephant never forgets”

Okay, I looked up the saying and am a little wiser than before. Thanks, LadyRyIn (and Ruthie)! :)

Actually, the old expression is: “I plumb forgot.” It refers to the true, dependable straight vertical line made by a plumb bob — a lead weight on a string. (“Plumb” is from the Latin word for “lead”.) Carpenters and builders have used plumb lines of some kind from the dawn of history.

So “plumb” became a synonym for honestly, or truly. Ruthie was making a really good double pun, which should have earned her at least a chuckle from Grandpa. :)

It made me laugh today.

If Ruthie is like I was at her age, she got the joke from a joke book and has no idea what it means either.

Hey all I have another one not a joke but old saying. I heard this when I was a kid. My mom said she got this from her dad. My mom is 80+ years. Old saying called “Tator Wagon”

Means thunderstorms.

Why do the elephants wear red tennis shoes?

I don’t know. Why?

So they can hide in strawberry patches.

But there are no elephants in the strawberries!
