Ruthie’s opinion on boyfriends is really perfectly age-appropriate, especially the idea that a girl is better off playing with her dog! At Ruthie’s age, playing with boys isn’t seen as much fun since boys her age would rather tease her with scary critters or pull her hair than do anything she’d like to do.
