Awhile back, I was telling my mother that the speed of light is constant, about 186,000 miles per second. She asked, “Doesn’t light move slower at night?” I had no idea how to reply to this without being insulting, so I just kept quiet.
In my youth, I was mystified for a while over the fact that when I turned the room light off, I could see that it took some fraction of a second for darkness to spread across the room. I knew what the speed of light was, and there was no way I could be perceiving that.
Then—appropriately—a light bulb went off in my head and I realized I was seeing the light decrease with the nearly, but not exactly, instantaneous cooling of the incandescent filament in the bulb.
But I was just that close to refuting Einstein, maaan.
It’s truly amazing how much I can learn just reading the comics. I had never before seen it scientifically proven that the speed of dark was equal to the speed of light, nor did I know about “dark suckers” (thanks, Meg).

This surely wasn’t the old twisty fluorescent bulbs that took 2 sec. to light.

The first two panels were funny because it’s true, sometimes someone has a good idea, but just seems to drop it the further it goes….

Actually dark is faster for LED lights. You can tell the difference on old and new turn signals on cars.

I replaced my light bulbs with dark suckers. It makes a huge difference in my electric bill.

LED bulbs are really bright. My mother in law had me put one in her laundry room. Surprised at the light!
