One of my parents favorite stories was that they convinced me that sauerkraut was my favorite food. To which I presumably said; really? And I did eat it all. Won’t say it’s my favorite food now, but it is one of the vegetables I do like to eat. Didn’t work with other vegetables though.
Parsnip. My father grow them and I hated them. Mother would put them in soup and they looked like potato, but I learned to tell the difference before eating any, yuck!!
My adult daughter says she hates okra and asparagus. But she has never tasted either one, so she does not know that for sure. I have eaten both (fresh from the garden) and don’t like them. My other daughter has eaten both vegetables and likes them.
I won’t eat food I don’t like. I had to sit at table until my plate was cleared. Often times it was food that made me gag or that I couldn’t chew. I was told to stop lying and just eat it.
In panel 1 it looks like baby potatoes, baby carrots (both ok), and then something that doesn’t look so good. Sliced brown tomato, maybe? Oh yeah, and green cake frosting from a tube spelling One Big Happy!

Judging from his overacting, I’d say Daddy liked it even less than Ruthie.

My mother would try to hide lima beans in my mashed potatoes. It never worked. I was always able to find the big green lumps and pull them out.

Sounds like a cereal commercial from the ‘60s staring Mikey. Can’t recall the name of the cereal, tho.

Yeah, but it’s good practice for your own children someday. :)

Still wondering why the Sunday edition of this comic shows up on Wednesday. Why?

Hey, at least he got her to try it. And she gave an honest reaction. You can’t (or at least shouldn’t) ask for more than that

Oh, look, it’s the strip that formed the basis of the OBH icon on GC!
