Someone teach Ruthie baccarat, chemin de fer, how to count cards, craps and, most importantly, calculating odds. She will pick up the important math right quick. And the weirdest things make me think of Kripke’s interpretation of Wittgenstein on rules and private language.

There’s academic math, and then there’s practical math…

My grandpa and parents taught me poker at an early age (7-8 years) I was upset when I lost a hand and cried and my grandpa wanted to give me my pennies back. My dad said NO. That was how the game goes sometimes.

My uncle counted cards. He tried to teach me, but I think it’s really an inborn gift; you either have it or you don’t…

I learned blackjack before I could multiply. But never did I use flashcards. But my grandma and I would play dominos and rummy, as well as pinochle. All helped me add and subtract quickly.
