I gave a guy $5 on Christmas Eve while I was driving to a sushi dinner. It was dark, blowing snow, and frigid. He looked like he had given up. The change in his expression was well worth it.
There are plenty of service agencies in my community: food, shelter, etc. we have homeless/jobless people hitchhiking in from miles away to participate in the largess.
