Have you never been pounded by a pound cake? Pull together handsomely, shipmates!

If they’re as dense as my grammaw’s, yes, much worse than a sword. But I bet a sword doesn’t taste good. Grammaw’s fruitcakes, while heavy as bank vaults, were delicious. It would take someone the size of Nate to raise one above his head. One of her fruitcakes, I was convinced, could save a village from starvation for at least a month in some poor nation. We ate off them for three months. We kids would get canned vanilla icing and spread on a slice of grammaw’s fruitcake, or butter it heavily on both sides and heat it in a skillet, or spread peanut butter on it. Or, just break it up in a bowl and eat it with milk like cereal.

For self-defense you can’t beat a fruit cake, backed up of course by Smith and Wesson.

My Mom used to make the BEST fruitcakes. It could have been all the brandy she used. We used to eat just the bottom half of the cake.(hic). Sorry:-P

LOL I too, hate Fruitcake. I’m not sure why, but, I think it’s the dried fruit.

    Anyway, …

There are just 12 days until Christmas.

and 19 days till New Years.

I once made the mistake of saying that I didn’t dislike (not that I liked) fruitcake. So she always sent me a fruitcake at Christmas. She once tried to send me a fruitcake when I was in Shanghai China. I never got it - so it must be floating around the P.R.C. somewhere. This might explain why US-China relations are sometimes strained.

I never had fruitcake because I am deathly allergic to tree nuts. But they can’t be that bad, can they?

ALLAN, stick with the Christmas countdown, I don’t need a reminder that another year of my life is slipping away! :-P You sir, are a cruel man! :-D

    Good late morning Crew!

Actually, there is a really great fruitcake from Texas…I can’t remember the name of the company. But it was good and moist. Also there wasn’t an overabundance of any one thing (nuts or candied fruits)

    Good Morning Crew,

It is true a FRUIT CAKE dropped from the Empire State Building will travel straight to China.

    Might I suggest a nice Jello Mold…

    Have a GREAT DAY MATIE’S

I like my mother’s fruit cake and most fruit cakes. But some are pretty awful.

I never liked fruit cake, but my dad loved my mom’s. So, I helped make them for many years. She usually soaked the fruit in cooking wine before making the cake. One year, she read that rum would be better. So, off we went to the local ABC (liquor) store (we are a family of non-drinking Baptists). Mom goes in and asks the clerk to show her where to find the Barracuda.
