verne: I can't believe what a narcissist you are. rj: If i knew what that was, I might be really mad. verne: The greek myth of narcissus? he falls in love with his own reflection in a pool of water. rj: how does that have anything to do with me? verne: you're wearing mirrored sunglasses. rj: So? verne: mirrored on the inside! RJ: Sometimes I get lonely and long for a familiar face. hammy: hey! it's sammy!
The true Hammy/Sammy story is that the original Hammy wasn’t an actual character in the strip. In the first year of the strip, he was referenced as off screen road-kill kill and buried in a pizza box. Later we added Sammy (who is actually Hammy) to the strip. The first screenwriter on the film, Len Blum, mistakenly used the name Hammy instead of Sammy and it stuck through subsequent drafts. To claim ownership of Hammy/Sammy T and I swapped Sammy with his mirror double Hammy in 2005. Sammy lives happily on the other side of the mirror doing everything Hammy does, but backwards and in high heels.
