“Ham.” Shorthand for Hammy. Makes perfect sense.

Note: We (people) have not even dug down through the Crust to reach the Mantle. The deepest man-made hole on Earth and deepest artificial point on Earth, the Kola Superdeep Borehole, is 40,230 feet (about 7.62 miles) deep.
