My grandmother would only swear in Gaelic. She thought us kids didn’t understand Gaelic, but we did.

    Love you grandma!

It’s always a bit of a dodgy warning, since it says where your eyes have been…

    mother puss bucket!

Though as a re-enactor I’ve been told my men cringe when they hear a “oh my Gawd1” a la Blackadder because it means I’ve seen something phenomenally stupid and someone is going to get told off-think a drummer boy drops his stick and instead of waiting for the unit to pass so he can pick them up goes charging back through the ranks pushing people out of the way.

We have an amusement park here (Since 1899) that closes for the Winter due to the weather and the kids going back to school. When they reopen in the Spring their ad campaigns have always started with “Park’s Name is open!”

This has been our regional way of saying “Your zipper is down” for my entire life, though XYZ isn’t uncommon either. (I once said it to a colleague, forgetting that he was a transplant. I got the strangest look…but it was pretty funny.)

Y’know, Mssrs (I assume) Lewis and Fry, given the sub-sewer level of current public discourse and the wretched excesses deriving therefrom the last thing we need is making it funny. Or “cute”. Which it ain’t neither.
