Early Peanuts were kind of….early. Growing pains needed.

Lily Burlero, possibly, which is also a song rather than a classical piece. It’s not much to go on.

Did Beethoven write something with words you could sing? With the 10/9 date, it is too early for Christmas songs!

Let’s see, Charlie Brown’s father owns a barber shop, so this could be a barber shop quintet (with a spare pianist……)

Liliburlero was for many years used as the “interval signal” for the BBC World Service on shortwave. They’d play it on the hour and I believe every half hour (but it’s been so long since I heard World Service on the shortwave). It was also the unofficial march of the British Commandos during World War II.

Well, it could be “Lilliburlero”, or it could be a R-rated song frequently done at Renaissance faires by the name of “My thing is my own”.

Beethoven wrote one opera, a “thriller” about a woman who gets a job at a prison run by the secret police to break her husband out. It’s one of my very favorites, and I had the good luck to backstage-conduct it once at Lincoln Center. Here are some highlights.

The villain (a total psychopath) dreaming of how he’s going to kill the chained-up hero. “And when his life-blood is running out, I’ll shout in his ears, ‘Triumph! Victory is mine!’” His men remark, “He’s losing it. Better look sharp!” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmsrhCxorVo

The heroine (disguised as a young man) wonders what the villain is up to—but she knows she loves her man, and whatever happens, Love will see her through. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEdHa4AemLI

The hero, who’s been locked up in a sub-dungeon for two years has, almost lost it—but he has just had a dream of an angel who will come to rescue him—an angel who looks like his wife. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fiRGm3N5T4g

The entire village comes together to sing the heroine’s praises—what a miracle it is to see a wife rescue her husband! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoL2Bsgn41M

The tune is the opening movement of Mozart’s A major Sonata (Theme and Variations) but it’s in a different key.
