This is why you should never play “for keeps,” Charlie Brown!

somehow like Daniel LaRusso being able to catch a housefly with chopsticks where Mr. Miyagi hadn’t been able to yet in years

And that’s why in my school “keeper” games were banned.

We weren’t supposed to play for keeps, either. But we did. I usually won more than I lost.

In all my childhood, I never played marbles. I’m old enough to belong to the “go outside and make your own fun” generation. Marbles might have been a regional thing? I never knew anyone in western New York or northwestern Pennsylvania to “plink” a marble.

Marbles no fun if you don’t play keeps.

My dad got one of those miniature pool tables when I was in my teens. Think it was five or six feet long, two and a half wide, stood a little below waist high since it was really made for kids (or for houses that don’t have the room for a proper pool tables. We used to play high-low a lot on it. Today’s strip really reminds me of that table and those games. Any time either one of us managed to pull off a shot we or just the other one didn’t thinking one making the shot could manage we’d out SL or SS for either **** Shot or **** Luck. Or we’d say the full phrase. Course unlike Charlie Brown we’d laughingly say it.

In a strip decades after this one, Charlie Brown will use his marble playing skills to help Rerun. . .
