Ah yes, remember those days well. Cap guns you could always say “Nope, I have my imepenetrable shield up!” or whatever the excuse for why you couldn’t get hit (I think I recall someone making the claim they didn’t get hit because they load the gun that was supposed to have shot them with blanks). But water pistols there was an unspoken agreement, based on the fact everyone could see the water hit you, that you didn’t use cap gun excuses for why you couldn’t get hit.

Ah! Kids playing with toy guns. Haven’t seen that in a while.
