When I was a teenager, I came down with mononucleosis. I was so very, very sick, and everything echoed. One time I was curled up on the couch and a friend of my mother’s had come over. I never liked this particular friend to begin with. She saw me on the couch and, in her loud, monotone voice, said, “Oh, you poor, poor dear,” while patting me on the head…and she wasn’t exactly gentle. That was 40 years ago and I can still remember the feeling.
Dogs don’t actually like be petted on the head, a good head rub, or massage is fine, but actually and up and down light hit is not enjoyable for the dog. It’s so, because my Lab said so.

Dogs actually don’t like pats on the head. It hurts. They prefer rubbing.
