Mud pies became a “staple” of this strip. There were even mud pie sandwiches with crabgrass.

And in modern times, Violet could include Pumpkin Spice Mud Pies.

There was a man who came into the restaurant that always had the waitress write NO PARSLEY in great big letters, on the order ticket. He told one waitress that his sister had made mud pies with grass in them and made him eat them. Since then he couldn’t stand ANYTHING green on his plate ! After his meal he would have chocolate cream pie. I never understood his being able to eat brown stuff!

    Mud, mud, glorious mud,

Nothing quite like it for cooling the blood.

So follow me, follow, down to the hollow

And there let us wallow in glorious mud.
