Linus and baby Sally are in the sand-area. Linus exclaims, "All over the world children are writing letters to the 'Great Pumpkin'"<BR><BR> He continues, "This is because on Halloween night he rises out of the pumpkin patch, and FLIES through the air with a big bag full of toys!"<BR><BR> Linus kneels in front of baby Sally and says, "So if you're a GOOD little girl, Sally, he'll bring you something too!"<BR><BR> Sally looks at the reader and thinks, "Suddenly I feel like I've heard everything!"<BR><BR>
One thing I’ve never understood is why Linus believes in the Great Pumpkin. He’s an intelligent person so I can only see three possible explanations.
1. He is ‘trolling’.2. Someone is in fact giving him gifts, reaffirming his belief in the Great Pumpkin.3. He is not getting any gifts, making him believe he has been somehow bad during the year.
If the third one is the case, I could see that being a reason he is such a good person in general, the motivation to finally be good enough to get gifts. I like to believe that it is the first one, however, because Linus really is a smart guy and I don’t believe he would create a demi-god figure and perpetuate it as truth without any facts to base it on, and if he does have facts to base it on, in way of the second option, I would be saddened to know that someone is so blatantly tricking and misleading him.
